Martolli's Hand Tossed Pizza Plaza

Surprisingly solid pizza in downtown Ashland. I was expecting a puffy mess like most small town pizza places- instead I was pleasantly surprised by a nice thin crust, good balance of sauce and cheese, and just overall an excellent pie! The side salad was also nice with a good mix of greens, not just lettuce and spinach.

Nope...they missed it. If you've read my many other pizza reviews you know that crust is king in my view and the crust here was just fair. 😟

The space was typical pizza parlor but not all that nice or appealing to me. They had a theme which was interesting, but space was was just not that appealing.

The staff were mostly youngsters just doing a job which is fine, but I did not get a sense that there was anyone there who truly was super passionate about making the best pizza possible. They were kind and helpful, but I did not see the passion...which is ok for good, but won't get you to amazing...if that is what you are hoping for.

The approach to toppings for a margarita pizza were not my favorites - lots of cut tomatoes on top of a cheese pizza (see photo). There is a better approach in my opinion, but it's just my opinion.

The crust was the biggest lacking element, it needs a lot of work to get it to a higher level. This was a very basic crust you could make at home in an hour with no proofing or fermenting. Excellent crust is difficult and takes a long time, but if your business is pizza, make it the best and take the time.

I'm hoping these folks will up their game and get passionate about having the best pizza in Ashland. Pie and Vine up the street is a better option in my option at this time.

Absolutely Delicious Tuscany Pizza Gluten Free and Dairy Free. My friend who said it was the best Gluten Free and Dairy Free pizza she has ever had. The crust was crispy and perfect and the pizza was were super flavorful! Very delicious! Highly recommend. I have also tried the normal pizzas by the slice and those are delicious as well. Not Gluten Free or Dairy free but very delicious!

During my visit to Ashland, of which I am currently chronicling in the form of my reviews, I stopped at Martolli's for lunch. In vein with the Black Sheep having the best burger on my journey, Martolli's had the best pizza. It was very fresh and the sizes were honestly larger than I expected. I went for lunch and left with dinner. The atmosphere if the place was distinct, a trait by this point of my trip that had become apparent to me as a defining one of many local places in Oregon. Honestly one of the things I remember the most was the restroom as it was the first place I visited upon entering, as I had gotten a scrape on my arm from a motocross accident earlier that day when I was riding (it was a very low speed fall, almost embarrassing, as the wheel spun out when I was turning around from standstill) and had to clean it.
