I lived in Ethiopia for a long time and just moved back not too long ago. This place makes everything perfectly. The owners are wonderful, the food is divine, it's very cozy and very popular, so don't be surprised if you have to wait for a little while. The wait was well worth the flavorful sensation! Will definitely be going back.

Great and homey restaurant with bar. The food was magnificent and the service impeccable. Awesome vegan options too!

I freaking love and adore Abyssinian Kitchen beyond words. For me, they are the GOLD STANDARD of Ethiopian Food. The Holy Grail of Ethiopian food! I've probably been to 40-50 Ethiopian restaurants throughout my life, and I think I've been to every Ethiopian restaurant in Portland. Abyssinian is hands down the Highest Quality, the most exquisite recipes, the food is to die for. Because I'm completely obsessed with Ethiopian food and go everywhere, if it's not as good as Abyssinian Kitchen, my response is generally Meh. I've recently been to 5 restaurants in Berkeley - none of them hold a candle next to this place. Personally, I'm obsessed with the Asa Dulet and the Siga and Gomen. Kitfo is great, although very spicy. Amazing shiro. I love the fact that they offer two different kinds of greens: kale and collard greens! And 100% Teff Injera. Food is banging, high quality delicious! I have not found a single Ethiopian restaurant better, and I have tried.

Love the chance to eat with my hands. Use some injera bread to grab some super flavorful Ethiopian filling. It was so good!

Amazing samosas and beet salad. We also loved the house made ginger lemonade with vodka. We definitively need to come back for a proper dinner sometime.

Edit: we came back for dinner and it was lovely.
