Awesome service during these challenging times, but also great service when we dine in! The Waiting Room's fried chicken is our favorite in the Portland area. Great drinks & southern food that come close to my pop's recipes from Mississippi :)
My wife and I visited early evening for dinner. Promptly met at the door and taken to our seats. After receiving menus and water we were kindly accommodated when we asked tomove tables (the bar stools and raised table felt a little unsteady). Nice two top near the windows was perfect. I would agree with other reviews that the music is louder than necessary.
We ordered the Full Bird meal which I thought was a pretty good deal at $50 for two people. I didn't care for the deviled egg, it just tasted "off" and would recommend against, but the hush puppies after were yummy and soft. The fried chicken was fantastic, the breading was crispy and light and it was cooked perfectly.
We finished off with the banana cream pie. My wife loved it while I only liked it a lot.
Whatever you decide, definitely get the fried chicken, honestly it was so good.
The balcony seats are great for those nice sunny days, but the music was too loud. I prefer music to be in the background when I eat so it was a bit annoying.
The food was good, but not great. We order quite a few things from the Happy Hours menu.
Oysters in half shell - I enjoyed mine, but the missus wasn't impressed.
Hush puppies - We've had much better at other places. I didn't enjoy this one that much.
Shrimp toast - This one was good, but you have to eat it right away. It gets very oily if you let it sit around.
Fried pickles - This one was really good. It's pretty much perfect.
Fried chicken - We got a half fried chicken. It was good, but the breast was just one big piece. Seems like they should cut it to 2 pieces.
All in all, it was underwhelming for a place with such good reviews. Screen Door and other authentic southern food places are better.
This place was great. The Mescal drink was great. The scallops were great. My fried okra was great. Whatever tequila drink I had was great. I only had two drinks, so I'm pretty sure I was sober enough to just say this place was great. I got my bill in a science fiction novel. How much more ridiculous and hipster can you get than that?! Whatever, the staff was super friendly and helpful. Downstairs was chill and upstairs had a hopping pop up Christmas themed bar. Would recommend. Check it out if you are in the area.
Delicious, high end southern food. I've had both brunch and dinner here and neither was disappointing. The hush puppies are light and fluffy with a spicy pimento cheese sauce. The oysters are very fresh and clean. The fried chicken is crunchy on the outside and super juicy in the middle. They also have inventive cocktails and a great beer selection.
