Mad Mex

The atmosphere was cool. There is a nice outside bar and seating area. The inside is equally nice with a multilevel layout. My fajitas we're excellent. If I had a gripe it would be the margarita. They claim it is their signature drink. It wasn't even close to being the best margarita I've ever had. And if you do choose to get one, you need to ask for salt, they don't put it on automatically. All its worth a trip.

Mad Mex is a pretty good bar and restaurant in downtown State College. They have the typical range of margaritas that you'd expect at a Mexican place, but also a variety of good drinks and a fairly good beer selection. The food isn't anything to write home about, but it is pretty good. On the positive side, it's an extensive menu and includes lots of options for vegetarians and vegans. I can personally attest to the tastiness of the tofu wrapture which basically uses fried tofu in place of chicken wings, tossed in your choice of sauce and wrapped up with other tasty things to make a yummy burrito. Also, the waffle fries are pretty good. On the negative side, the tortilla chips appear to be the bagged variety instead of fresh fried.

This is a place with large portion sizes and great burritos. It is lacking in service at times. If at least 75% of the restaurant is full, you might not get your food/drinks/check for a bit. it’s common for me to have finished a 16oz beer before food comes and water rarely gets refilled.

Week days 4:30-6:30 half off wings and drafts, definitely worth it... They have a cilantro wing sauce, it is so good. Expect Tex Mex food and students!
