It's a bit of a drive from Charleston, ~30 minutes, but it's worth it. Enjoy FRESH fried whole flounder, scallops, oysters, shrimp, and steak cooked to perfection. Our party of eight arrived just after they opened (5 pm on a Saturday) and we were seated together at one of the long tables on the side porch. Specials are posted on a board that you can see when you walk in, but be prepared with an alternate choice in case your first choice has sold out. Great desserts too!

A little rusty, a little crusty, in other words perfect for a small eatery in a small town that is largely a fishing village. If someone wants a James Beard restaurant experience, there are two of those in Charleston as well as a dozen other 4 star restaurants. This place is in character and what you get here is some 5 star food. Again, if this is in keeping with what you want, and what you want is grilled or deep fried seafood, you will not be disappointed. If you are looking for broiled seafood and fancy salads, go somewhere else. I think the grilled deep sea scallops are the best I've ever had and the hushpuppies, well, I could make a meal of just those! The owner is right in the restaurant (you can tell who he is because he is the person working the hardest). He will gladly come over and chat with you if he has time. While I can't claim great service, I can't say I ever had a bad experience with that aspect of the visits. Any time I'm in Charleston for a week or more I make it a point to visit this restaurant.

This is absolutely the best seafood restaurant in the Low Country. The service, the owner, Ms. Gertrude's famous crab balls, the buffalo shrimp were amazing. All are a MUST HAVE!! PHENOMENAL!!!
