It’s amazing to see an authentic concept like Sum Bar come to Greenville. It was much-needed.

Excellent choices for food and drink. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu and able to help you find something you like! I loved the green beans(!!) and egg drop soup. The green beans were well-seasoned and had a nice crunch. The egg drop soup was flavorful without being overly salty.

    Make a reservation!

This was our first time going into the restaurant (we finally managed to get reservations!)

Location: I love the location and the collaboration they have going with Fireforge. On the weekends you can park in the lot next door or there are a few parking garages only a short walk away!

Vibe/Atmosphere: They packed quite a few tables into the restaurant so it can get loud at times. I love all the live plants they had in there and that you could buy local things from different businesses while you are there. The inside was more casual than I expected (not mad about that at all) so that was a nice surprise.

Food: Amazing. Lots of different options and easy to share. Only regret is not getting the Crab Rangoon.

Drinks: The sake selection is so good. There is just something so nice about drinking alcohol out of a juicebox. Next time I'm gonna get the drink that comes in the cute character mug. I love a good rabbit themed drink.

Overall: Definitely a must whether you're just visiting or are a local looking for a new place. I'm hoping to see continued collaboration, another APA Fest, and hopefully a rotating menu so I can try even more food :)

Managed to get reservations for dinner on Sunday. We've had some menu items before, like the green beans and the pork dumplings, through some of the events that sum bar has done with Fireforge. Those were great and the food this time was no different. We split the char siu, siu mai, gai lan, and cucumber salad. Everything was reasonably portioned and priced, perfect to get a couple things and split with another. They had a unique cocktail menu that we didn't explore (chose sake instead) but are looking forward to going back to try some! The atmosphere is clean and modern - fairly small inside area, so it is a bit intimate and could get noisy.

Looking forward to heading there again with some more friends!

I literally did a dance when I bit into their Bok choy and pork dumpling. I kinda felt like that rat (remy) from Ratatouille; there were music notes (or flavor notes) playing the most beautiful song in my mouth. Sum Bar was absolutely amazing and it was absolutely worth the wait. Everyone was as kind and as charming/funny as could be (especially the owner, who went around asking everyone about their meal). I'll be dreaming about my next visit.

My boyfriend and I visited Sum Bar yesterday. We had a 5:00 reservation, and upon arrival the hostess was very friendly! She showed us to our tables and gave us our menu and told us our waitress would be over soon. Our water glasses were filled and then our waitress came. She was very helpful during the ordering process. The cocktail I ordered was delicious, and so was the beer my boyfriend ordered!

Soon we moved onto appetizers and we ordered the crab rangoons and an egg drop soup. Both were delicious. Then we ordered the small entree plates: Gai Lan, Dumplings, and Char Siu Pork. All were delicious as well! Throughout this experience the staff were all very attentive and the food arrived quickly each time we ordered a different dish. Another thing to note: whoever had the music AUX killed it! Each song was definitely a vibe, and combing that with great food and drinks was an amazing environment to experience with my boyfriend.

Finally we ended off on dessert: Egg tarts, sesame balls, and the daily dessert which was a chocolate and ginger truffle and a blueberry truffle. All were so great! I grew up eating egg tarts and sesame balls, and being Vietnamese these flavors were very similar and authentic tasting. Another thing to note, we were seated in front of the giant windows across the entrance and there were no blinds to go against that 5:00 golden hour, so after a while I did start to feel hot. My boyfriend and I ended up switching seats since he wasn't being hit by the sun. The staff did take a notice, and came over and apologized and gave us tiny shots on the house and that was a great gesture! Smooth shots to end the night off with was amazing.

Overall, we both really enjoyed our experience here. Not just with the food, but with the friendly and attentive staff, the music, and how intentional the timing of the dishes being delivered felt. We will definitely return!
