The Blue Plate

Other peoples’ reviews always make me shake my head. Ignore the “cancel culture” comments and eat here. Quick stop after a day at the aquarium. Kiddo had fried chicken and pancake and I had steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli rice casserole. Really good blue plate food: hence the name. And great service.

Neat diner by the riverfront. They have a big menu, lots to choose from. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with the hot sauce, which added 75 cents to the price. I don't really understand why I had to pay for some sauce. The chicken was over-fried. There was a burnt taste along with the excessive crunchiness. (My wife wouldn't let me complain.) My side of mac & cheese was great! She had the Chef salad, which she said was "alright, but nothing to write home about." The wait staff was very friendly though and we liked the decor and layout of the restaurant. We'd probably go back, but certainly try something else on the menu.

Lovely little place down by the river, the food is better than you would think. Simple menu, but everything is done really well. The chicken sandwich is fantastic, and easily a meal for two. Our server was just the right mix of helpful and sassy.

I got the hot brown sandwich and it was outstanding! A couple of things I didn't care for...the upholstery in the restaurant is disgusting. I love the vibe of the retro style seating, but was so turned off by the stains and grease marks. Make sure you sit at a high top instead. Also, if ordering a beverage not on tap, we had to specifically ask for a chilled glass. But again, the sandwich was awesome
