A five star place for grab-and-go barbeque.

I stopped in to grab some BBQ since I saw that this place had just opened and I'm amazingly glad that I did. They were a bit behind on the food but the staff was extremely nice. It's real people making real food.

I ordered a pork plate with baked beans and potato salad. My first go-to when trying a BBQ place is to try their pulled pork (maybe a bit backwards as I think most people go for the brisket), and I am very impressed for several reasons.

The pork was tender and juicy with the right amount of smoked flavor in it by itself. Their sauce is homemade tomato based sauce with the right amount of sweetness, smokiness, and kick to perfectly compliment the pork. Combined together, it made a sandwich to rival any I've had in Nashville. (And yes, that includes Judge Bean's, Edley's and Jack's).

Between the food and the staff, the five stars are fully deserved. I'll definitely be around for more.

New owners here and now they serve up BBQ and Cubano foods.

I am always a fan of the non-chain types of restaurants but when you add it is a BBQ place and Veteran owned I’m in for sure!!! Now this place is in the Kwik Sak, they have been open for 3-months, and you go inside for your food. I met the owners Ray and his daughter Leslie and they are extremely friendly and accommodating. Ray’s motto is emblazoned across the back wall of the store “Where you come in as a customer, and leave as a friend” couldn’t be more appropriate here. Plus…if you are a guitar fan Ray has a few throughout the store. From the start if you’re not sure of what you want, you can get a sample to help you decide. I decided on the Brisket Plate which includes two sides so I went for the Mac & Cheese and Potato Salad. You get a solid helping of food for your money and you shouldn’t go home hungry. The Brisket was a bit dry for my liking, I more of a fan of the slightly fatty moist brisket. The potato salad was delicious with a touch of mustard and mayo to give you a great contrast of flavors. The Mac & Cheese would satisfy most BBQ fans out there…nice and cheesy and not mushy.

Now I had sampled the Baked Beans…and Ray is extremely proud of them. For the life of me I could not figure out the spice he used in these beans but it gave them a distinctive flavor. When I finally gave up, Ray revealed the secret spice and it was one of those Ahhhhh moments. Now I won’t reveal the secret spice…you’ll just have to go and see if you can figure it out yourself. Now Leslie is running around the store working on something and she provides me a sample of Cuban beef picadillo…this was INCREDIBLE. I am a huge fan of Cubano foods, and this small dish was so darn good that along with a pint of beans, I also took a pint of the beef picadillo to go.

To top it off Ray shares with me some of their banana pudding…and this is a solid banana pudding. Thick, rich, creamy and not overly sweet…if you are too full for desert, take some home for later.

Overall good food, reasonable cost, and exceptional service. Leslie told me on Monday and Friday they will offer some Cuban foods and it seems they will add specials throughout the week. In the end…I came in as a customer, and left a friend!

Last week i got stranded at the kwik sak. Turns out my battery died and the owner kindly drove me to two different places to get a battery and he jumped my car off. He was so generous and understanding. Much appreciation for this place!
