We truly enjoyed the entire experience while visiting from Dallas, TX. The small intimate family style soul food establishment was full of hospitable service. I had the oxtails, cabbage, and yams and although my oxtails was not very warm it was delicious. My husband had the fried fish, red beans and rice with Mac and cheese. He loved it. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely be back.
We came back in, just my brother, my dad, and me and ordered plates on a quiet day. We were welcomed kindly as usual and our teas were given quickly. I fell in love with the beef tips I tried on a different day and decided that that would be my meal today. My dad was in a rush for some reason which I knew would make for an uncomfortable visit. He had a few bites as he does anywhere else and asked for a to-go container while my brother and I finished our meals. He also asked for dessert later. I understand good food and I understand it takes time. I like coming here because even in two visits, I never felt rushed to leave. We ordered banana pudding and waited and chatted meanwhile. My dad asked for the banana pudding again and he was told it’s being prepared. He asked again. A lady from the kitchen brought us our pudding and asked if we had spoons. She said, “uh? They didn’t leave you spoons”? She was half joking about the teens serving us. My dad responded with, “Good help is hard to find haha”. I sank in my chair some and she smiled with grace. Where it would be easy for everyone there to give my dad attitude back, they did not. They handled him with grace. We had just left a funeral for my cousin and there was some stress afterwards yet, my father was given smiles in reply.
As for the food, perfect as always. Everything is made to order and you can see it. Even the banana pudding where you can tell they didn’t cut it out of a dish and throw it into a bowl. It’s prepared for presentation as well as for flavor. There’s love in this food and love in preparing it.
I had heard of this place and that they have some of the best liver-n-onions around which is my mother's favorite. So I decided to take her there for a Belated Birthday Lunch along with my sister and my aunt. We absolutely enjoyed everything from the time we walked in until we left completely satisfied and stuffed :) My mother enjoyed the Liver, my sister and I loved the oxtails and my aunt loved her pork chops everything was seasoned well, we even took pleasure in the kool-aid margaritas , even ordered a couple of plates to-go. We've decided to keep coming back until we've tried everything on the menu.
Absolutely fantastic food! Food came out hot and STAYED hot! I give it a 20 out of 10. Great service and instantly felt at home. Definitely recommend everyone to eat there!
