La Fonda

Our recent trip to San Antonio had Us at a hotel near this restaurant and I was so glad after eating here. The beef fajitas, chicken tortilla soup, and homemade corn and flour tortillas were amazing. Worth the time to visit.

They make a simple effective margarita. Rick's Special queso is great. Menu items are consistent. Service is from medium good to very good.

Good Mexican food. I had shrimp enchiladas, which were tasty. Free chips and salsa for the table, of course. Quality and friendly service. Happily split the check for a large party of coworkers. Clean restrooms. Festive decor. Large restaurant. Conveniently located around 410 and 281, near the airport and hotels, and not as far as the original La Fonda if you are from this side of town. Plenty of parking. Safe neighborhood.

Food here is always great but service is unpredictable. Sometimes you get a wait or or waitress that is outstanding and sometimes you get that one guy who is just there for a paycheck and only goes above and beyond for large groups that guarantee he will get an amazing tip. Wish I knew his name as I have had him three times but I cannot remember it to save my life. This restaurant is considered somewhat upscale but is always kid and family friendly and won't put families in the undesirable part of the restaurant unlike others. I have eaten here for over 15yrs and will continue coming here. Love the environment and the food just wish I could say more for the service

The food and service are great and my food was well seasoned. We came during a busy lunch service and had no trouble getting a table and the food came out as quickly as you would expect.

My only complaint is the tortillas. I tried both the flour and corn and had the same problem with both, they are just way too thick and dense. This makes them very filling, I could barely get through 2 of my 3 street tacos. If they were a little lighter I would give this place 5 stars.
