We had a great time walking around in Gruene TX and when we were ready to eat we stopped over and Gristmill restaurant. We stopped at the bar 2 have a cold drink and then our waitress showed us the way to our table to eat. The Appetizers were awesome anything on their menu is excellent when it comes to appetizers. Each of us had a different plate and our waitress was able to give us the specials. The ribs were Very tender and juicy the chicken fried steak was incredible, the burgers and fish was excellent. The waitress was awesome and we had a overall great experience.
Very relaxing meal in a beautiful setting. The restaurant has many areas to dine including outside surrounded by trees. Menu is large and they do have a Gluten Free list. It is noted there may be cross contamination but I didn't experience a problem. Waitress was very careful once I mentioned Gluten allergy. I had the Gruene Bros. "Best" Wurst polish sausage which comes with mustard that I would love to buy and take home. I had the mashed potatoes on the side and took half the meal home as servings are generous. My husband had the Beef Tenderloin Sandwich and loved it but didn't care for the special prime sauce which luckily he had them put on the side. Very family friendly establishment and if we are ever in Gruene again I would love to dine here again.
Wonderful atmosphere in the old mill. The spot is really something. Food was also quite good. Good selection for kids. Only drawback in my mind was that none of the desserts, according to the server, were made in house. Great service, however, despite a very busy evening.
One of Texas's best kept secrets. Small town vibe with a big Texas taste. Located on the Guadalupe river in the Texas hill country. Mostly specializing in burgers and steaks you can get a little bit of everything here. Good service and excellent views of the surrounding views and river. Highly recommend
The whole Gruene village was a great experience for our family and friends of all ages. Our party consisted of young, middle age, and elderly family members. Although there was a lot of walking and some precarious steps the riverside table was well worth the effort. We requested a riverside table for 8. We were able to put our name on the waiting list and while waiting about 10 minutes for our table we enjoyed live music in the courtyard. There was an outdoor quick bar where we could a sip a tasty cocktail outside and another sit down bar was available to sit while waiting inside. Our servers were extremely courteous and quick to deliver our food. The beginning of our feast consisted of Texas Torpedoes, Onion Rings, Artichoke dip, and perfect Margaritas. Each appetizer and side was fresh and tasty. Our main courses included the Golden Grilled Catfish, Ribeye Steak, and the ribs. The BBQ pork ribs are not on the menu, but they are a MUST try be sure to ask for availability from the servers. The ribs were tender and fell off the bone. Prices are a bit above the normal fare, but the overall quality and quantity of the food makes the Gristmill River a spot we will definitely be going back to on our next visit.
