Niwa Japanese BBQ

I think the concept is okay, but for our group of seven it just didn't work great. It's very hard to determine how much food you are going to need with the way it is sold. The pieces of meat are so tiny and, let's be honest, Americans are used to eating just a little more than the Japanese. ????
They only offered white steamed rice for a starch which some at our table were disappointed in. When the raw food does come out, you pretty much have to assign a designated cooker if there are more than two of you sharing a grill because you simply can't reach it and there are way too many hands in the kitchen, so to speak.
At one point I thought I would help and I put a piece of raw chicken on the grill and realized I had probably contaminated the almost cooked vegetable that was sitting there.
Our waiter was sweet, and he cut up the birthday cake and served it on plates to us after dinner which was really appreciated. My husband did sit through most of the meal with an empty water glass, however.
I think maybe for a first date night where you're not going to eat much anyway, it would be a cozy situation to sit across from each other and cook and talk, but other than that I don't think I would go back. For the $300 we spent, we could have gone home with leftovers from a traditional Japanese steakhouse.

Japanese food and service at this place is super good. Service is excellent even when they are busy. I had a brother come into town and asked me to take him back here. The place has a nice atmosphere. Reminds me of a cafe in Chicago I liked to visit.

It was definitely something different like i was looking for. The staff are very nice, welcoming and very menu friendly. 5 stars from me all the way on the food was exquisite.

I loved it! It was my first time in a Japanese BBQ place. It was so fun and the veggies and meats were delicious. I would definitely recommend this place and will return again when I am in the area. The staff was wonderful and answered all my questions very warmly. Thank you for a great first experience!!

Really enjoyed this place. The atmosphere is great for date night or small groups, but they have a larger room for big groups that I would recommend advance reservations. My favorite cuts of meat we're the New York, Sirloin and Pork Belly. The portions are high quality and average about $10-$12 for a 3-4 oz serving.
