Location is off the beaten path, about 6 miles from Weimer and 13 miles from La Grange. This is a 100+ year old General Store that's been converted into a restaurant and dance hall. Only open Thursday - Saturday for dinner and Sunday's for lunch. The screen doors as you enter remind you of days gone by as do the latches on the bathroom doors. The have a good selection of wines and beers and the food reminds you of Grandma's cooking. Look up on the chalk boards on the wall to see what soups, sides and desserts are being served. The chicken fried steak is delicious as was everything we tried. A must try is the Sausage Sauerkraut Balls and if you like yellow squash - the squash casserole will hit the spot. The prices are reasonable and the service is good. The owner swings through the dining room ever so often to make sure her guests are being taken care of. It looks like she oversees the kitchen as well. Almost forgot, the Buttermilk Pie is just like Grandma's too, crust and filling! Enjoy & Bon Appetit! ????
Great little steakhouse! Service was spot on.
This place was AMAZING!!! We were in town visiting and decided to try this place. The restaurant is located away from the hustle and bustle. The drive to the restaurant is beautiful. The decor was simple and cute. The food was awesome. Our group had corn flake chicken, chicken fried steak, tomato basil soup, squash casserole, green beans and mashed potatoes. Everyone kept saying how it was so good. We ALL ATE EVERY BITE! We also each got a dessert and shared. The buttermilk pie and carrot cake were homemade and delicious. 5 stars all around!
Love this place. Really nice atmosphere and great food. Their steaks are quite nice for the money and their home made sides are great, especially the squash casserole.
Love the history and traditions of the restaurant! Excellent food and service. We had the chicken fried steak (best homemade gravy) and yummy strawberry shortcake for dessert.
