El Palenque Mexican Restaurant

I've been going here since my mother was pregnant with me. Today, I took my daughter for the first time. 30 years of visiting this Mexican restaurant is a true testament of this restaurant's lasting customer service and food. When you're there, ask for Mario! He's watched me grow up, and today he met my little girl :)

Great food, ask for your preferred level of beverage and they will accommodate.

A long time ago this used to be a real go to Mexican restaurant. Then for whatever reason my business hasn't taken me here for many many years. Just not the right part of town for me. We decided to celebrate a birthday last night. It was interesting looking through the menu because not a lot has changed over the years. Seems like this restaurant has been here at least 25 - 30 yours, maybe more. I'm amazed at how good the restaurant still looks. The tables are spotless and don't have the greasy edges you would expect for something that's been around this long. Service after seating was incredibly prompt with drinks, chips and salsa coming virtually immediately. We asked for some super hot sauce, and that appeared immediately to. Appetizers were the standard queso, and the not so standard guacamole. The guacamole is fresh made with chunks of avocado, definitely not over beaten, and incredibly tasty. Lots of pepper, lots of cilantro lots of onion. Very tasty. I ordered my usual reliable standby, the half broiled chicken. Again another standout for me. All in all, dinner was a fantastic success, service was excellent, and I highly recommend this place. Why I haven't been here in so long, I'm going to have to figure that one out!

Some of the best TexMex in Houston. All time favorite of mine, must visit if you're in the area. Great menu, great prices good atmosphere, friendly staff.

One of the oldest Mexican restaurants in the area. My wife and I have been eating there since around 1996. Great food. Great service. And great Gold Margarita's.
