The Salt Lick is famous for barbecue, and it's no wonder why. This smokey oasis in hill country is a mecca for all things meat. The grounds are large and beautiful, peppered with picnic tables for outdoor seating. If you want to imbibe while you chow down, bring booze with you. It's totally allowed, and they don't have any alcohol for sale on site.
A friend from Austin said, "Order family style. It's expensive but worth it. Trust." and he was totally right. It's basically an all-you-can-eat Salt Lick BBQ sampler meal for a group, so you can try a little bit of their most famous goodies. Wait, a little bit? What am I saying. When you clear your plate, they bring you more!
The lean brisket and their country beans were my favorites, with coleslaw coming in close after. The amazing service combined with warm wooden decor and the heirloom BBQ pit inside the main dining room give you this warm rustic vibe that's very comfortable.
Make sure to add the Salt Lick to your BBQ bucket list, you won't forget the experience.
Awesome stop if you are in the area. The food is delicious and its a really awesome atmosphere. Made the trip out here when I was in Austin for a few days. The food is very good, portions were good sizes, and the prices were fair. The location is really cool as well.
It is one of my favorite places to eat in Texas. Make sure to try their wine selection. The location is in the beautiful hill country and makes a great setting to sit and enjoy your wine and food. The BBQ is the best in Texas. This is cash only, they don't accept credit cards. It is also BYOB, so bring your favorite adult beverages with cash in hand and enjoy the hill country views and live music.????
Awesome atmosphere! The food was pretty good. Portions are generous. Ordered chocolate pecan pie for dessert, do not recommend...not good. Service was great, when he messed up he promptly fixed his error. Worth the Sunday afternoon drive.
