“Decided to try this place out since my nephews said it is a good place to get tacos. I went into the restaurant sat down and didn't take long to get my order. It's a small place and it was quite full with a couple of tables and booths. I ordered the huevo rancheros and a potato n egg taco. You have to be patient because it took like 40 minutes to get the order since there is also a drive thru window and taking orders. The waitress were kind and polite to customers. The food was okay. My total was $7 dollars with the coffee. If your in a hurry I wouldn't recommend.”

“It's been a good while since I was younger coming here and grabbing a bite alongside with me dad and sister. Visiting alongside with my brother and sisters, this restaurant is way better than I remembered. The seating area is more welcoming, the service is amazingly great, and the food is phenomenal that we came back for a 2nd time. We might've came for a third. For this small restaurant to be open for more than 40 years, they will do even better and more in the coming years. A definite comeback place to hang and eat.”

“Tried the special today. I am very much a foodie. Found a rare jewel and change of pace from the normal Tex-Mex fare. Garbanzo bean soup, costillas, tortillas and a tea all for $5.99 plus tax. It was excellent, delicious down home RGV food. Everything tasted homemade. I would highly recommend! You won’t be disappointed and will probably find a new regular spot. I plan to make it part of the rotation at least once or twice a week and probably breakfast too. The service was fast, friendly and very accommodating. The place is very very clean too. Can’t say enough good things. I’d like to keep it a secret but a place like this needs to be shared and enjoyed.”

“My wife and I had been wanting to try this place and we did so today. Honestly, not the worst food you could eat. However, the meals were lacking and not as tasty as other, similar, restaurants. The meal starts with standard chips and salsa, El Porton adds a bean dip. I ordered the beef fajitas with shrimp and my wife ordered caldo de marisco. The shrimp in both our meals was overcooked. So, too, was my fajita. Our children had the kids combo with the carne asada tacos. The kids ate well enough to let us know it was decent. I will say the corn tortillas were fresh, hot, and one of the better restaurant tortillas. The service, with competent wait staff, was standard. El Porton is decorated in bright pastel colors and is located on a corner suite that let's in a high amount of daylight. As you're paying at the counter, there are kick knacks to purchase. In the display case are a variety of traditional Mexican candies and snacks. I'll update this review as necessary as I do intend to try El Porton at a later time. Overall, a standard restaurant with no distinguishing dish.”

They give you some beans and enough limes to squeeze onto the tacos which I like to do. The Green salsa is not to spicy but complements the meal. Wish they had a red salsa. I also order the synchronizada ..looks big but didn't try it but my nephews like it. Recommend this place which is open at night.”

Not sure how I will feel about it in the middle of July… LOL The staff is very friendly… Pretty sure they only speak Spanish… Included in my pictures you will see that the entire menu is in Spanish… But… We’re pretty close to Mexico so what do you expect..
