“I settled in to a window seat looking out at the gorgeous Hill County Courthouse, pleasantly surprised by the cloth napkins and intrigued by the pictures from local history adorning the walls. I ordered the sausage starter and the chicken fried steak. I was a bit taken aback by the starter when it appeared, as it looked like a breakfast dish, with two split-lengthwise links laid on top of a cornmeal pancake with dabs of a syrup-looking sauce. But the pancake and sauce were savory and tasty enough, and the sausage, while not possessing the chorizo consistency I was hoping for, was fine. The chicken fried steak was absolutely gargantuan (I ended up taking half of it home, an extreme rarity for me) and generously thick, a welcome relief from those where the breading overwhelms the meat. The texture of the meat was great, but the breading became chewy and fell off the meat too easily. The true star for me was the gravy, which was gloriously thick and creamy and chock-full of sausage bits. I chose two sides; the mashed potatoes were a worthy accompaniment to the steak, while the steamed broccoli was... steamed broccoli. Overall, perfectly acceptable if you're passing through town and want a good small-town restaurant experience, but not particularly memorable.”

“On the square downtown, this place was a nice surprise. It was clean, the service was good and their pizza buffet was fresh and delicious! They had an amazing white pizza (Alfredo sauce was really good). They offered a generous salad bar, several types of pizza and dessert. Everything was a hit with my entire group! It was a bit pricy but we were not dissatisfied with the food. I would recommend stopping in and giving them a try!”

“The food was excellent however the employees could do with a pep talk. Not a welcoming atmosphere. 5 stars for the awesome salsa and entrees.”

“We were looking for a restaurant near Hillsboro and this popped up on Google maps with great reviews. Excited to find a new place on our path from Austin to Dallas we stopped by tonight for a late dinner. Wow, great food and friendly service made for a much needed break from driving in the rain. Portions are nice, salad bar was fresh and delicious and the entrees were perfectly cooked. I was instantly reminded of my childhood with the comfort food served here. Will definitely be back for more. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the homemade pies staring at you from the glass case, making you crave them. Then you taste one and you remember how grandmother made them...”

“Fresh, fast, courteous, attentive, and delicious. CILANTROS is a very pleasant surprise. It is one of those places that you just never think of trying. It is so small and unappealing from the outside. Once I went inside, that perception instantly changed to quaint. The salsa is delicious and has a generous portion of cilantro. I looked pretty rough when I came in. I might not have even served me. To top it off I asked for sour cream chicken enchilada and they don't even offer them but he made them for me. Everyone there was so kind and polite. Even though it was Friday night and they were pretty busy, the food came out fast and was delicious. Even the rice was a cut above. The enchiladas were amazing.”

“As far as "off the beaten path" little bars go, this is a good stop. They have Friday night karaoke, jukebox and a pool table. It also serves impressive bar fair food. You can order everything from a steak dinner to fried pickles.”

“Omg Karens! Simple simple simple but so good! People that say they been to karens and I ask "what you get?" they tell me the egg and bacon burrito or the sausage egg sandwhich ????. Ok...get the brisket egg bean potatoe and cheese or instead of brisket get chorizo thats Karens burritos ????! They have this red sauce that comes with it, its so adictive and the guac sauce has enough spice kick to it I buy extra just to have both at home. The service is fast and the place stays busy all morning none stop. Theres 2 locations that I know of one in Maypearl the other in Itasca gotta stop by karens for a real authentic home like burrito!”

“Their pizza is pretty good, we always order the Alfredo pizza which is a nice change from the traditional. It's pretty fast and we never have to wait long to pick it up. There isn't a dine in area and they are only open Thursdays & Fridays from like 5-8 so it can be frustrating when you feel like pizza any other day. Locally owned and operated and always clean.”
