La Misión Grill & Cantina

Tonight was opening night for La Mision, but we still wanted to try it, because we loved this place when it was Margaritas. We expected long waits and problems with drinks and meals. We were pleasantly surprised. The new decor is nice, but I miss the booths, because the chairs were a little hard. The margaritas were fantastic. They use 1800 tequila which makes it taste better in my opinion. I did not even get the higher quality one but the price was awesome! They give you three different salsas: green, pico de Gallo and red. One of our group opted to mix and match some of the sauces, which actually made it a little better. The pico could’ve used a little more onion and cilantro in my opinion, but everybody else at the table loved it. I like the red sauce best. The green sauce had an interesting flavor but was a little more spicy. The queso was great and the chips had a good texture: crispy and not too thick. I chose the chimichanga meal, but there were so many other things that I want to try on the menu, like Pozole. I loved the refried beans which had a little bit of chorizo in them and were slightly spicy. The rice was a cilantro rice rather than the boring Spanish rice that is often served. I like that much better. Mixing the refried beans and rice was also good. The chimichanga had some queso on it and was served with guacamole and sour cream, just the way I like it. Unfortunately I’d had so much chips, salsa, and queso that I could only eat a quarter of my Chimichanga. It was good, but at that point I was so full that it was hard to enjoy. We did not have room for dessert. I paid for 4 drinks (mine and someone else’s) and a large meal and my bill was still less than $40. Our waitress was fantastic. I was extremely pleased with this restaurant and will definitely be back.
