Let's be honest. Those of us from out of state (or even out of city) come to Waco for specific tourist traps: Magnolia Silos and all it entails, the Dr. Pepper Museum, the Spice Village etc.
We come to be ushered around, gaping at the sights and sounds surrounding us (and a free Dr. Pepper with admission).

What we don't come for, what we never expect, is that grumbling in our stomach when we realize we don't WANT to stand in line at the Magnolia bakery or wait for an hour at their restaurant (and Dr. Pepper alone just won't cut it).

What's a tourist to do? Where do we go? I need protein, stat!
Enter Captain Billy Whizbangs.

Don't let the facade fool you. This run down, sketchy looking, kind of freaky diamond in the rough has some of the best burgers I've ever eaten at a fast food restaurant. I'd sooner choose Billy's over In-N-Out or Whataburger (and that's saying something, since my town has neither and I always make a stop when near one).

The Captain is a humble place - a place likely known best to locals who aren't scared by the dilapidated looking building.

But shoot dang, my friends, if they can't fry up the best burger and fries in town.

That's not even mentioning the sign that says "psychopath" inside, or that they call their bathrooms the "Whizzers".

Gold. That's what this place is. Pure gold.

Best burger place I have found so far in Waco. Food is consistently hot and fresh, and so far our order has never been wrong. It's a must stop if you need a good burger!

I never thought any one would reinvent the budget but Captain Billy had done just that. The bacon burger had the bacon ground into the meat! It was so good! Even the sides have been made better, fries, tater tots, onion rings have taken on a new flavor at this place!!! This is a must try place of you like burgers!!!

Saw this restaurant on Diners, Dives and Drive-ins and thought we would try. Guess what? This is an absolute stop for us every time we return as Winter Texans on our way back to Minnesota. The Double Whiz Pig is the best burger I've ever had in my life. And great every time we stop. Can't wait till the next time! One time, we stopped and saw a family eating at one of their tables. We told them this was the best burger place ever! They said thank you so much and introduced themselves to us. The Owners!!!! LOL

burgers at this location - very tasty. filled me up. fast, efficient, and courteous service. prices are reasonable. menu is like a cafe in indianapolis i loved.
