I was excited to try after reading some of the reviews. It was a bit of disappointment. Food was sub par. The stuffed jalapenos were some of the worst I've ever had. It was obvious they were not fresh and had been reheated (possibly in the microwave), therefore, the fried exterior was soggy rather than crisp and fresh out of the fryer!

I celebrated my PhD earlier this evening in this delicious restaurant. happy to tell that we enjoyed a fantastic evening and the place was definitely one of the reasons for that successful celebration. The team contributed in a sweet manner, the food was delicious and my friends were extremely cheerful. We shall surely come back again for more celebrations. Thank you very much.

Chips and salsa were amazing. Food was delicious, and the steak was seasoned and cooked well. The service was excellent. I have been here twice and had a great experience. For sure I will come back again.

This is my review of the new “Cruzitos Tex Mex” in Rockwall County Rowlett. This is right next to Baylor Lakepoint Hospital, Hang Time and Kyoto Rowlett right bear the lake on the Rowlett side of 66. Or you could, ya know, type it into google maps.

A few friends of mine had already been to Cruzitos and given good feedback so we made our way over for lunch recently. Pulling up, there is a visible sign from the road, and a simple banner hanging on the wall over the entrance.

Walking in, it’s obvious this place was configured for something else. The restaurant is large, almost jarringly large, and seems to have been a yogurt place at some point in the past. The yogurt machine wall holes are all still there in the main dining room, as is a empty stainless steel Buffett bar where you imagine strawberries and captain crunch once laid.

We were told to seat ourselves, so we picked a booth. Honestly there is plenty of seating in here, they could sit more than 100 with no issue.

Service was fast, a server quickly greeted us and took our order, and within seconds drinks, chips and salsa were on the table. The chips needed salt (that’s fine) and the salsa was a nice mild, very easy for anyone to enjoy. On request they did have a “hot sauce” which had considerably more heat, but was perfect for my preferences.

Looking around after we ordered, the ambience here is, basic. I would rate the ambience a 2 out of 10. Little maracas were on the wall, it sort of looked like they hit up party city in the cinco de Mayo section and stapled stuff to the wall and ceilings. But I didn’t come hear to eat the decorations.

The sizzling combination fajitas arrived ($14.95) and were impressive. Loads of meat, a HUGE bowl of absolutely superb charro beans, HOME MADE TORTILLAS, rice and a setup which had uncommonly fresh guacamole. This was looking promising.

Huge bonus points for genuine, scratch made in house tortillas, they really do elevate just about any TexMex meal and are somewhat uncommon at many places.

The meat was seasoned, cooked and marinated perfectly, and each bite cut cleanly (no hanging or odd chewing). The Pico was fresh, and there were loads of peppers and onions. This was a straight up feast.

Whatever I was feeling going on with the odd layout and basic decor had fleeted me at this point, I had entered true fajita nirvana. These were awesome.

Cashing out, our bill was about $34 for both of us (two orders of fajitas and a iced tea) and I felt this was a fair price.

Ranking around locally, I would rate Cruzitos approximately on par, if not a little better, than Arboledas or El Potrillo De La Sandia. A great neighborhood joint, and a welcomed added option to the area.

I would rate Cruzitos a 4/5 and suggest a visit. They are closed on Sunday’s.

Was a bit leery in trying but made the move anyway. Very pleased! Husband and I had a salad each. Mine was the chicken, grilled btw, and his was shredded beef. Both with great flavors. Waiter, Ryan, attentive and ready and willing to take our order anytime. If Ryan wasn’t there it was the young lady with chips or whomever delivering food ready to help. Will definitely be going back! Next time maybe fajitas, they smelled so good! Would love to have hotter salsa, margaritas and a Taco Tuesday Special!
