They serve crawfish on the weekends in season. Excellent! Happy to have A Cajun option in Steiner
Food was amazing and the service was just as good. Definitely hit this place up again.
I went here with a friend, she tried the red beans and rice and I tried the jambalaya. The jambalaya had a nice flavor profile but the rice was mushy. I think it's because they used long grain rice and not parboiled rice. The red beans and rice, however, were fantastic. I'm thinking of going over there just to get another order of that. The spices on the red beans were just perfect and I'm from Louisiana so I should know.
The reason for the 3 stars is the service. I had to go to the bar to ask for the check. Also, the food took 30 minutes to come out and this was a few weeks after opening.
I will give it another try and see if the servers have improved.
We have eaten at Poppy's twice. The first time was opening night and it was a little rough (took a while to get the food) but the food was good. We had boudin balls for an appetizer and my wife had the catfish basket and I had the shrimp basket. Overall the first visit wasn't great because of how long it took to get the food but the food was good. We waited a couple of weeks and tried it again. The menu was a bit smaller but that seems to have improved things as it didn't take long to get our food this time. My wife had the shrimp gumbo and I had the chicken and sausage gumbo. Both were very good. We will definitely be back.
