Our New Year tradition is to have crab on the day. I do not eat anything seafood/fish/crab. The only option for me was a sausage link and potatoes. Not really a good thing to hear. My mother on the other hand loved the Just Snow plate. Her only complaint was that the crab was very small and no knife to cut it.
I came in for a late lunch (about 1:45pm), with only only other table occupied that I noticed. I had to wait a few minutes to be seated, but getting my tea and order taken was prompt after that, and I was checked on once waiting for my order to come out and again a minute or so after, but I was not checked on again after that. Having to pay when ordering seemed odd, and in retrospect may be policy to discourage walkout or asking for comps.
I ordered a #3 Baby King, described as 1 snow crab (meaning a 1/2 crab cluster), sausage, corn, egg, and potatoes, and chose lemon pepper as the garlic butter flavor, priced at $16.99 before tax. I was not asked to tip in advance and was not given ticket where I could have done so after.
I know snow crab is cooked and flash frozen on the boat, but what I was served seemed to have been overdone when reheated. It did come apart easily enough, where I only needed the loose nutcracker in a couple of spots and managed to use the tip of the disposable knife to substitute for the lack of having a crab fork available.
The potatoes were the bulk of the meal. Half were drowning in the butter sauce at the bottom, but were okay on top. The sausage was unremarkable; not bad, but didn't seem special (and the flavor did not work with the butter sauce). The corn tots/mini-ears were good, but also almost overdone.
I did leave full enough, but found myself regretting having passed by a few Asian places where I could have gotten seafood meals I would have enjoyed more while paying less (and more having been prepared on site rather than being reheated from frozen and having hot sauce dumped over before serving).
If you grew up in an area with snow crab and miss it, this is probably a good enough taste of home to be a reminder. For those who grew up on local seafood coming less than a 2 hour drive from the Gulf of Mexico, this isn't going to satisfy.
I came here for the first time today and let me start by saying, the service was GREAT!! The food tasted pretty good as well but the reason I am leaving 3 stars is because this place screws over their employees. If you leave a tip on the credit card the employees do not get their tip NONE of it, it goes straight back to the store. You have to leave a full cash tip in order for them to get it. That is sad and pathetic to pay you employees $2.13 and not give them their full tip just because its on a card!!!
❤ Love Love Love this place!..
