Love how refreshing the Italian ice is and how creamy the custard is. We check the day's flavors pretty regularly to see if anything jumps out.
Excellent Gelati and custard. Serving size is smaller than Zeppes but the custard is a bit better. Plus side is you can eat inside on those 100 degree days vs Zeppes makes you take it to go.
It was a hot day in July, and I needed to cool down. So I stopped in for a cool treat. You don’t see Italian ice often in Utah, so it sounded delicious. And it was! I ordered a Gelati, which is custard on the bottom of the cup, italian ice on top of that, and topped with more custard. It’s exactly what I needed. I was told they rotate flavors almost daily. If you liked this review please give a thumbs up ?
I never tried Rita's, apparently it's a chain, so we decided to give it a try. Being from Brooklyn, Italian Icy was a big thing in the East Coast. We had local shops, to franchises, to street cart vendors selling Italian Ices-I grew up on these. What caught my eye was the "Frozen Custard" part, like what is that! I've heard of Frozen Yogurt, Gelato, but never Frozen Custard; I had to give it a try.
The store is located in conveniently located in a strip mall, among other shopping/food stores. The inside was clean, with enough chairs and tables for customers to relax and enjoy their dessert. The workers were friendly, as they let us sample couple of Italian Ices, and Frozen Custard. As recommended, we tried the Gelati ("A layering of your favorite Italian Ice and creamy Frozen Custard"), as it had both the Italian Ice and Frozen Custard we wanted to try. It was pretty much Italian ice on the bottom of the cup and Frozen Custard on top of it.
After trying couple of samples of the Italian Ice and Frozen Custard, we decided to the Coconut Italian Ice with Mint Chocolate Frozen Custard, and a Black Raspberry Frozen Custard. I'm a big Mint Chocolate fan so I had to try the Frozen Custard of that, and the Coconut and Pina Colada was the only decent tasting Italian Ices. The other Italian Ices tasted off from what they normally would taste like in other places-theses were just more tangy. As for the Frozen Custard, the workers mentioned they were different from other frozen desserts, due to the addition of "Eggs". Likewise, the Frozen Custards were more creamy. But honestly I don't think anyone who isn't a Frozen Dessert connoisseur would taste the difference; they most likely mistake it for some really good and creamy ice cream. Nevertheless, I wasn't disappointed by the Mint Chocolate and Black Raspberry Frozen Custards.
Would definitely recommend anyone who wants to try something different, or if you're in the area to stop by and check it out. I'll definitely be trying out their other desserts (cookies, brownies, waffle cones, etc.) out next time!
Great customer service in a clean restaurant. The water ice and custard are amazing (pro tip: Green Apple Mistos are the best!)!
