St Helen's Restaurant and Sports Bar

Great place. Diamond in the rough. Walked in expecting (hoping for) a seedy diner. What a surprise a fancy white table cloth experience!! Awsome food and awsome people.

I really wanted to love this place. I’m astounded at the number of 5 star reviews though, because it was far from amazing for us.

We ordered eggs, bacon, country potatoes, a scone, and a stack of pancakes.

The eggs were… eggs. Fine. Same with the pancakes. Fine.

However, the bacon wasn’t well-cooked and it was cold, and the potatoes were barely cooked. No seasoning or salt/pepper. Just bland, barely-cooked taters.

The scone was okay. It was clearly sitting out for a long time before it was served cuz it was cold and dried out. But it was well-prepared. And the honey butter tasted good.

The service was a bit lacking. We stood in the door, waiting to be seated for an awkwardly long time while servers walked right by us. There were like 6-7 tables available in the small restaurant, so it was strange. It took even longer to be acknowledged once we sat down.

I’ll chalk that up to staffing issues, I guess.

Seldom I rate at 5 stars, but everything was so good. The chicken fried steak was delicious, well balanced in flavors the home potatoes were beautifully done, the eggs fluffy, perfect. The presentation was beautiful. Portions were plentiful.

The scones are delicious as well, my wife had a vegetarian omelet and all my previous comments apply the same.

No tastes overwhelmed any of the other ingredients. So much care for preparation and the service was courteous, fast and friendly, a delightful efficient and pleasing server, Nany took care of us.
This is a very well run restaurant, hard to say these things about other places.
My respects to all who work there.

Good food. Weak coffee but fast service. Great scones!
