Martone's Market & Café

This place has the best sandwiches. I used to frequent Martones when I went to college nearby. Moved to Maine and hadn't been there in over a decade. Just as great as I remember!

Best deli around. Their sandwiches are HUGE and stacked with high quality Boars Head meats, no nasty cheap stuff here. Half sandwich is usually enough for one person but grabbing a whole on a sub roll is easily a full meal for two. Ragin' Cajun, Vermonter, and Darkside are their best sandwiches but you really can't go wrong with anything. Great for eat in, or take out.

If you're really hungry and want a truly satisfying sandwich, Martone's is pretty hard to beat. Their large sandwiches, while a little pricey compared to the nearby Subway are huge. Like enough for 2 meals, huge! I don't know how they manage to pile them up so high and thick. The bread is fresh and delicious. Their meat is from Boars Head provisions and is truly amazing, by far, the best cold cuts around. They also have a lot of odd, yet interesting toppings available like hummus and a hot pepper relish that is outstanding. They also serve delicious gourmet coffee and often have kabobs and marinated steak tips prepared and ready for you to take home and grill yourself. They also offer fresh salads and some homemade baked goodies, too. The building itself is also really cool, and oozes atmosphere with it's high tin sealings and wide plank floors. Definitely a lot cozier and less sterile a setting than the local Subway, too.

Incredibly nice staff and even better sandwiches. Fresh baked bread and fresh smiles. Definitely going to make it a regular lunch destination.

A long time Essex resident. Martone's has been my go to place for over 17 years. Please don't come to Essex jct and not try Martone's. My favorite has always been the hot pastrami. But a must have is the turkey bacon.
