Hunger Mountain Co-op

A very expensive grocery store (compared to ANY big city like NYC or DC etc. since I guess Vermont is so far away from major truck routes) but this Coop has certain food items that no one else has in Montpelier!! But even the LOCAL Vermont food items (like local cheese and meat products) are very expensive...all a bit of mystery to me!!

Shaw’s has a cheaper but smaller range organic section. Check out both!! Shaw’s fish section is excellent and fresh...live lobsters etc.

Wine section at this Coop is the best in Montpelier and cheapest if you know how to choose.

Bulk section is absolutely the BEST! Very, very reasonably priced. Just the tops with a HUGE range of items.

Nice checkout folks and helpful staff in all sections.

Pity they serve no wine or beer with food on the nice Terrace. Then I would dine here weekly. But I guess that may be taboo under “uptight” Federal or Vermont laws for a Supermarket to get a liquor license to serve wine or beer they already sell in their own shelves!! Sad?

The buffet offerings are often organic and real, whole foods. More healthy and tasty foods than other co-ops in VT and NH that I have tried. Great selection of hot and cold foods.

Everytime I am in Montpelier I stop here! Great small co-op grocery store, and deli. Awesome place to stop and get lunch or some amazing fresh fruit and veggies

There is no place like Hunger Mountain Coop ! It even smells good walking in the door. As someone with a unique vegetarian diet, I can find a great assortment of products even at the buffet!

A place I love to shop at. Not cheap, but well sorted, good prepared foods, nice little Cafe as well. Well stocked, knowledgeable employees, European flair.
