Kanpai Restaurant

Too expensive for what it is. The sashimi tasted better than it looked, but was a small portion. The yellowfin tuna teriyaki was average to lame, especially considering the $18 price.

Echoing another post, I can verify the beer is $11. It’s a good size beer, just pricey nonetheless.

None of this is helped by the afterthought ambience of the place. For the prices they charge, you would expect a better vibe. It was more like a questionable lunch spot. The tables and menus are sticky. I believe they’re clean, but they don’t look or feel it.

Perhaps it is a better value at lunch, but I can only speak for the dinner experience. There are better options up the road. It’s not the worst dining experience I’ve had, but it’s not worth trying.

We love the STTR and the lovely people who work here. They invited me in for tea at times and celebrated with me when I got engaged. An all-time favorite restaurant.

I've been here twice while traveling for business. The sushi prices are beyond reasonable and the quality is excellent. I recommend the Chesapeake roll (blue crab) and the Kanpai roll. Service is friendly as well. I will certainly be back in the future!

Recommendation from our hotel, the Virginian, Kanpai did not disappoint. Great customer service and great food. Walking distance so close, very convenient. I will be back.
