River Haven

Wait staff was great. The food, however, was not. I should have paid attention to some Yelp reviews staying how small the portions were, really small. I wish I had taken a picture but felt self-conscious owing to the close proximity of the wait staff. Wife got the blackened catfish, which was custom ordered, so a positive there. The size however did not warrant the $16.99 price and then a $2 up-charge on top.. I got the $23.99 stuffed flounder which again was small. Appetizers of calamari, which was ok, and New England clams with clarified unsalted butter that was completely separated, were edible at best. The side of maybe 5 small broccoli florets in the same clarified butter made them taste like the clams. And the side salad seemed to be more appropriate as a topping for a burger. Overall, not satisfied. But I do have to mention that our waitress was great.

A quiet dinner on the riverfront. We had a great view from our table of the river. The food was excellent. I had the Crab Stuffed Lobster Tail and my boyfriend had the Broiled Seafood Platter, both dishes were very tasty and had good seasoning. We finished off dinner with a Key Lime Pie which was also excellent. I see us coming back often to satisfy our seafood cravings.

I was delighted with this place! It's a local joint with great food and plenty of history. I have deep fried cat fish which was absolutely perfect. Great local Va beers too. Exceptionally clean and well-organized place. Can't wait to go back.

I have no idea why this place has had a 1 or 2 stars in the past. It's a big mistake to miss this place. We nearly didn't go because of the Google reviews. So glad we went and hope you will stop by too.

Wonderful experience late last evening, We were traveling through and decided to stop in. They weren't very busy. We were one of 3 tables. Lucky us! Our host/waiter was polite and checked on us often. Our appetizer catfish nuggets were hot, light and crispy. Baked seafood platter arrived hot and tasty. Fish and shrimp (baked) can get cold really fast but this was not the case on the hot plates. Crab cake had nice lump crab pieces. Side salads were served on nice cold plates. They were crunchy and tasty. Cold beer and cocktails were served right up by the bar staff. The only downside was the chlorine taste of the ice water. I'll return again when going through Port Royal.
