Good food, great atmosphere! The only reason I didn't give this place 5-stars is their reservation system. This place has no direct phone number(?!?) If you have a party of four, you can make a reservation online, but if you have a larger party, you have to send an email. I had a party of six for my birthday, sent in two different emails and no one ever replied(?!?) Made a reservation for four online and hoped for the best. (un)Luckily, two people had to cancel, so it all worked out.
I am a professional mystery shopper in the food and beverage industry and came on my own to check out this new spot.
Commendations:
-excellent flavor and food. Each bite was great.
-inviting and cohesive atmosphere despite the space feeling a little less defined (hotel lobby)
- great amount of selection.
Recommendations:
- answer the phones. We were unable to get through to make a reservation or ask questions.
- service was awkward. Our server was overall fine but we did not receive proactive refills of water or cocktails. Our waters remained empty for a good portion of the meal with little server interaction. Food runners were awkward. If we had an empty plate on the very small table both food runners stood at the table, announced the dish, and water for us to clear our plate and hand it to them. This felt odd considering the runners were only holding one dish in one hand… theoretically they could put down and pick up with different hands as the plates are small. This happened with both employees. Felt very odd for this price point.
-further define small and large plates or figure this out. We were tickled that the “small plate” of Tokyo chicken filled us up and was quite large meanwhile the “large plate” of scallops was quite small.
-drink menu format was cumbersome. You may want to have the page open to the signature cocktails. I felt like I checked a book out of the library when we received the drink menu.
Overall this is a good spot for drinks and bites, as a hotel bar should be, but I think it is still figuring itself out.
Very cool restaurant/lounge in the lobby of the Watermark hotel at the Capital One complex in McLean. Great cocktails, small plates and tremendous service. If i had a criticism, it's that it's much more open and less a defined space than i expected, but still worth a visit, even if you just cozy up to the very large bar.
Gorgeous new hotel. Extremely cozy, brand-new chairs. Killer views. Sensual lighting. Good food. Great location for a pre-movie dinner... but the service was lacking... need a manager who knows how to train staff whose skills match the quality of food and place.
Absolutely stunning place to be.
Japanese dishes were so delicious.
The vibe itself was very chill but social.
Many different seating (high bar, low bar, tables, etc).
My absolute favorite dish was the baby beets; had to order twice because of how good it was!
Service was great as well!
