Shula's Steak House, Richmond, VA

Food was very good. Service - meh. The wait staff did less than I expected. I ordered soup and my husband was going to order an app but forgot. So I got my soup and he got nothing. Seems this could have been avoided if the waitress has asked if he cared for an app. Not saying it was the staff's responsibility to ask, but when a meal for two costs over $200 I expect extraordinary service. Service was only acceptable. I would go back for a special occasion (the food really was great) but wouldn't expect outstanding service, which frankly is a shame.

Also - it was my hubby's birthday and they put a little birthday placard on the table with "Happy Birthday" on it - I have no idea what that was about. I thought it was odd. We would have appreciated if the staff had sang to him, or given him a small ice cream or something complimentary for dessert, but received neither.

Food was excellent. Service was great. The only part that was crazy was the fact that it was my wife and I and one other person, and it took almost an hour for our food to come out. Other than that it was good. I will be back .

Always great. I visit quite often. Staffing is attentive and friendly. Food is excellent. Steak tips are one of my favorite things with white wine or red in winter. Best grilled asparagus ever

I wind up staying at this Hilton location usually once a month. Due to the close proximity (ha) and convenience, I eat at Shula's a couple of time's over the course of the stay. I have experienced slow service in the past but the staff is generally very receptive and apologetic about it. I tend to eat in the bar area these days and haven't had any issues. The staff is friendly and they even recognize you after a while which I think is pretty cool (and welcoming).

The steaks are generally prepared very well but if you're not QUITE that hungry I recommend the steak tips instead. They are just as good and cost far less. Also the Key Lime Pie for anyone with a sweet tooth. If you saved a LOT of room for dessert then get the Apple Cobbler. Note that you need to order it at least 30 minutes in advance and it's big enough for 2/3 people to share.
