Mea Culpa Cafe

Very professional and big on hospitality Mea Culpa Cafe really is a hidden jem in Ghent. Perfect for a summer weekend brunch with a good menu of light but also filling dishes or fall coffee spot outdoors on their patio.
Super great staff too! The only downside is that some items are a bit overpriced. For what you’re getting it’s expected with it being a local business, they still gotta keep the lights on, but overall really good.

Really nice place with delicious waffles and a very yummy savory oatmeal! Clean and cheery and the owners couldn’t be nicer!

Waffles are insanely good. You won't regret coming. Coffee is amazing, as well. Nice deck seating with cool atmosphere. Always great music playing, too.

So I had the pleasure of trying Mea Culpa for the first time because there was a Yelp Book Club meeting here! Dude, first of all, don't drive by too fast or you'll miss it. I seriously thought it was someone's house and people were just parked in front of it because there was street parking. NOPE! It was a legit cafe right next to Toast (if you love Toast like I do, go stop by Mea Culpa ASAP). And whoa, their oatmeal was a bowl of yummy goodness that I wasn't expecting? Like, I don't think I can eat another kind of oatmeal anymore, to be honest. Who knew that having a sunny side up egg with chili powder and all the other goodies in the oatmeal would make it taste extremely amazing and fulfilling?! I had no clue! I'm glad I tried it. The iced tea was perfect. I love teas, and if a cafe doesn't have a good tea, it's rare that I'll go again unless I love the food there. So Mea Culpa was two for two. It really is an amazing place. Cannot rave about this place enough! it's adorable, the food is good, the coffee is good, and the neighborhood/civic engagement is even better. Every waffle sandwich I've had there is incredible, it's so hard to choose a favorite, and their sides are incredible! Don't forget the coconut loaf, you won't regret it. You can also feel good about giving them your money, since they give back as much as they can to supporting the local community.
