We celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary here. 1966. Celebrated our 50th. Dine here on each return. The food is tasty the ale hits the historic spot and the ambiance takes one back 200 years. Located on Duke of Gloucester Street midway between the Capitol and Courthouse it was a perfect spot to discuss politics over a pint.

Great food and atmosphere! The wait can be lengthy, but it is well worth it.

We went to chowning's tavern for lunch. I had a pulled pork sandwich with a side of potato salad. It was delicious, however, for the price (12.95), I would have thought I'd get more than an ice cream scoop of potato salad. I asked to try some of the beer choices they had and it's good I did cause a few were not so good. I settled on something, ordered a pint of it and again was disappointed in the quantity of beer for my 7 dollars. Everyone else in my party seemed to enjoy the food. The chairs at the restaurant have seen better days some had holes in them or were sunk in from heavier people. Overall it was a good experience but I can't say I'd come back, I'll try some other restaurant next time.

We had a delicious lunch here with our children on our anniversary while exploring Colonial Williamsburg. The roasted corn chowder was delicious! The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was a nice touch. We received a sweet card from the owner for our anniversary. All of us really enjoyed our meals. I enjoyed the potato salad and the BBQ sandwich. Although the meal was overall quite expensive it was enjoyable and I can definitely recommend it to anyone visiting. Best advice us to get on the list early and then visit shops to return. We waited 2 hours overall.
