Visiting from out of town and on a mission to find the best fish and chips and clam chowder in my 10 day stay. Drove out to Ballard very intentionally to check out Macleod's on the suggestion of a local friend.
The clam chowder as a starter was pretty disappointing as the clams were rubbery and the least fresh I had tried since landing and the only reason the review is a 4 and not a 5 star.
The fish and chips on the other hand were quite good and the breading on the fish was possibly the best I've had so far in Seattle.
I would definitely return for the fish or a bit of scotch but will avoid the chowder next time.
limited food menu but was exceptionally done well. The scotch egg seem to be the favorite and we ordered two, they were delicious. Fish & Chips is very authentic and rustic, everything was pleasantly not greasy for pub food. The drink menu is also really well designed, you can find a huge selection of scotch and whiskey based mixed drinks. The restaurant layout is pretty unique in the heart of Ballard, lots of outdoor seating. Definitely will take people back during summer happy hours.
Best fish and chips in Seattle. Wonderful cod filet with a nice amount of batter that doesn't create too thick of a coating, but provides nice flavor and texture. Chips were solid as well. While I personally liked them, my wife wasn't super fond of the mushy peas, so be aware of that when ordering.
Service was kind and helpful, while happy hour has fair portions and prices.
Our waiter was amazing and so friendly. The outdoor space with the white lights is just so charming. Good drinks and food.
Fish and chips!
