I’m not exaggerating when I say that the Zodiac is one of the best bars in the Northwest. Fun without seeming too gimmicky. Swanky without being pretentious. It’s just a winner all around.

    The Drinks:

In addition to a full bar and some taps, there’s a full menu of champagne cocktails, shareable punches and slushy drinks. The slushees are particularly good, made with non-well liquor and actual fruit juice so they aren’t sickly-sweet. Try the painkiller if they have it (think a piña colada with orange juice).

    The food:

The Hibachi is what puts the supper in the Supper Club and you’re the chef experiencing the primal joy of cooking on fire. Options include steaks and a number of different veggie kabobs. I kept hoping they would get the Beyond Burger and just saw the other night that they added it to their new menu but I haven’t had the chance to try making one yet.

    Entertainment:

Zodiac has the one of the most lovingly-curated jukeboxes I’ve seen in any bar. It’s got a fairly comprehensive collection of ‘60s psyche and ‘70s glam rock plus seemingly random inclusions like Nation of Ulysses and Amy Winehouse. And it’s free! When they don’t have live music, the only other entertainment is a small TV above the bar that plays everything from Warner Bros. cartoons to Barbarella to low-budget horror films.

The attention to detail in the decor here is just outstanding. If you need to kill some time in Tacoma, you’d be hard-pressed to find a prettier place to do it.

Fun place to go to have a drink and grill your own food. Everything is well taken care of there and clean. Lots of fun things to add to your steak or burger, spices and sauces. Staff was friendly and they had a good beer selection. There was a band playing and they were good also. Quite a fun night out.

Fun bar on the Hilltop. There is a free jukebox, interesting art and decorations, and the taco Tuesday menu was delicious. Their menu has a lot of steak and meaty options with a few vegetarian and vegan options as well. Free condoms available at the door project a progressive culture.

A hipster / gothy feel. It's dark, but has plenty of nuanced personality and the crowd is pretty diverse. Service was friendly and prompt. And, there's an open grill which seemed pretty interesting. My only complaint is the chairs with wheels. Because of the uneven surface, which is concrete floor, you always seem to be rolling in some direction. It can be quite annoying. So, get a booth or use the bar stools. I hear the food is great, but I didn't have a chance to try it. Maybe next time.

It’s not that often I get excited about a place to eat. I had the most enjoyable time last night. From the moment we entered the building the whole vibe was super laid back. Everybody looked at me like, “welcome to our little secret watering hole”. I’m not sure if the DJ , a really cute young lady dropping vinyl from the 70’s and 80’s does that every night. But the music, for me at least, just added to the magical experience. The waitress and bar tenders were almost too nice. Like they were on some magical religious experience and it was just a matter of time before I got the spirit too.
I ordered the biggest steak they had. A 26 oz bone in rib eye. They bring the meat and bread to you on two plates. You discard the top plate after YOU lay your beef on a communal hot grill. YES! You cook your own steak. It was for me a Nirvana experience. My steak was perfect because I cooked it myself. Gawd I can’t wait to go back! The salad and side dishes were so good. I gotta tell ya,
Don’t miss this experience. I don’t think they allow kids,as it is a bar. But you and your girl are going to have a great time.
