Sweet & Quaint little farmhouse. Tucked away on a country road. Beds are clean & cozy. Very hearty & delicious breakfast! We enjoyed a quick hike on a nearby private trail. Angela is a thoughtful and helpful host. 😊
I loved staying at John and Angela's farm. We stayed in the barn loft. I'll be honest I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to sleep. I've slept in old barns from the 1800s and 1900s before and the experience was quite spooky! That was not the case here! It was very peaceful and quiet. I loved watching the sunset and the stars were beautiful at night. Watching the little brown bats fly above was such a lovely sight. The population here hasn't been effected as badly as the rest of the country by white nose fungus. There were few mosquitoes. The ducks and chickens sounds at night were comforting and I quickly adjusted to waking early with the natural alarm clock. Thanks to the little rooster! The breakfast was phenomenal and worth every penny. I enjoyed talking about the history of the farm and getting to know our hosts. The property had a few trails to walk on that were nice. Located just 15 minutes from a grocery store and about 10 minutes from Clendenin. Near by is the Elk River for fishing and Elk River Trail for a leisurely bike ride or hike. 30 minutes from Charleston. We were able to drive to several hiking trails and the New River Gorge Bridge in about an hour. I would recommend staying here. It's worth the experience and hospitality!
5 stars are not enough. Everything about the Country Road House and Berries Bed and Breakfast is warm and welcoming, with a quaint, rustic charm. The scenery is overwhelmingly beautiful. The Cellar House was quite comfortable, and the breakfasts were absolutely delicious. The Borne family were perfect hosts/hostesses. Angela, John, Matt, Sam, and Brooke have truly found their calling in the hospitality field. The Country Road House and Berries Bed and Breakfast will be my first choice of lodging during future visits to the area.
I stayed in the barn loft at The Country Road House.
When I booked, I was looking for a unique place to stay while I drove by the area. This was the perfect spot.
The barn loft was clean and spacious, Angela was super friendly, and the bed was very comfortable.
To my surprise, the outhouse had no odor and was very well kept, while keeping it rustic and historic.
The farm was really lovey. I loved visiting the goats on the hill and enjoyed the peace and quiet after the sun went down.
I will most definitely be returning.
Tip for Travelers: If you like sleeping in a chilly space, the barn loft may not be for you. I would book one of the other two spaces on the farm. The loft is a little warm. (Think Glamping) Or book it in the cooler months for a really unique experience.
My daughter and I had an excellent experience! The hosts were genuinely kind and friendly and solicitous of our comfort (without being at all intrusive). We loved walking along the trails on the property. Very pretty! I was very impressed by the quality of the breakfast Angela prepared for us and especially grateful for how carefully and creatively she addressed my daughter's food allergies. It was delicious!
