I was visiting from Indiana and wanted to try a place we didn't have back home so I chose this place. The fried catfish and fried shrimp were both seasoned to perfection. The dirty rice was a little spicy, but still great and the cornbread was nice and moist. I would definitely visit this place again.
If you don't know what to try, just try it. Literally everything is fantastic. The biggest challenge you'll have is going back and wanting to get something new when your feeder hole is craving what you had the last time you went. Awesome place!
Ambiance: Basically like an expanded food truck. Simple decor with a couple of New Orleans touches. You can see right into the kitchen and the menus are pieces of paper. They really maxed out the space in there with probably 10 spots to sit.
Food: Food tastes very home cooked. Not too fancy, but good flavor. I had the red beans and rice with double sausage and my boyfriend got the gulf shrimp dinner. Pretty sure everything comes with cornbread. The dirty rice was hot (for me at least).
One novelty I had to try was the praline. I had no idea with this was, but apparently it's a New Orleans tradition with butter and sugar and milk and pecans and it kind of tastes like a grainy caramel. Very sweet and delicious. Around $3.50 for one of those babies.
Service: Fast and kind. Not a whole lot of interaction (seeing as it's counter service), but all that we had was good! For the price i think it was a pretty good deal.
I tried the other location years ago and wasn't impressed. Now I feel like I need to make up for lost time. So delicious! The shrimp po'boy is great and the jambalaya and beans and rice are just solidly yummy food. I'll be back!
We enjoyed sitting at the window watching traffic outside. Friendly staff, homey place with nice plants--just a great place.
We love this place! Eat there before almost all home volleyball matches. Great specials ... love the 'Gator and the Turtle Soup! Janine loves the crab cakes! There are *NO* bad options on the whole menu!!! The Sweet Potato Pecan Pie (especially when it's HOT) is a must try (but we love Sweet Potatoes and Nutmeg and dessert)!
