Dropped in on a Thursday evening for the best food in the Northwoods. Chef Marsha working her magic in the kitchen and Big Mike keeping the infield watered down up front! Gotta stop in and get some of the history and the stellar selections at Hornwinkels on Lower Gresham Lake!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We had a great time! Marsha and Mike have a fantastic restaurant. Get the fried green beans, walleye fingers, and Ruben! Don’t pass up this gem!! Delicious and great atmosphere!
One of the best fish frys if not the best I ever had. The Chicago Italian beef was great. I am not sure it was Chicago style. The beer was cold and the drinks were mixed right. Service was great. Parking was ample. All people who I spoke with were very pleased with the place.
Great place. Friendly people. I had a fantastic halibut perfectly cooked and topped with a delicious pico of tomatoes, onions, and jalapeños, served with a side of rice. So good!! Generous portions. My wife enjoyed the walleye fingers and fries. The fish was fresh and flavorful. She appreciated the beer selection, which included a porter (Mudpuppy Porter). In honor of the chef’s birthday they served complimentary bday cake for dessert. The decor is “up north” with various animals and memorabilia on display in the ceiling rafters. We had a great time!
This restaurant is just as much a tourist attraction as it is a fantastic restaurant! The food is excellent--it's farm to table goodness. My husband and I loved the food so much we were tempted to lick the plate! While dining we spent time looking at the ceiling that was full of rare taxidermy and antiques. And if that wasn't enough to entertain us, the owner made sure we were comfortable and shared many stories of where she came from and how she landed in the Wisconsin Northwoods. Although Hornwinkel's has only been open a few months and just getting established, they could become the next iconic Northwoods must-visit restaurant for locals and tourists!
