Clocktower Brew Pub Westboro

Solid fare at the Clocktower. Their beer is pretty decent, especially the Red as well as the kolsch, and the service is quick and frequent. The food is a bit hit or miss, but overall tasty. The Kimchi fries were outstanding, as were the burgers. However, sometimes the fries as a side were so-so and the wings varied wildly in quality. Great patio during the summer, and the TVs are often showing Sens games (WHICH IS A GOOD THING). Nice big space at the back for raucous parties to sit in.

Came in for lunch at 1pm. They had a table menu promo with great prices, had I known they started at 2-5 I would have reconsidered my order. 16.95 for 1lb of wings is way overpriced. Also a 1 and 1 half oz. Haddock taco was 8.95, for one taco! I expected a 20 dollar bill with the promotion menu, which actually came out to a $35 bill. I tipped 5 bucks, however had my server at least mentioned to me that the prices were not as advertised, I would of ordered something else. Please servers, if you see us pointing at the selection when the prices are not available at the time, say something! I would have tipped $5 on my $20 bill and was disappointed when my small taco, 8 wings with blue cheese dip and 1 beer was $35.

The taco was great mind you, and the wings were good size.

I'm a bit conflicted about writing this review, I will preface by saying I do really like Clocktower, and I want them to succeed. I hope my review will help them do better.

Last night, my friends and I went to Clocktower for a drink. We were told by the staff to find a seat at a table, so we find one and go sit down. 20 minutes passes, no staff have acknowledged us whatsoever. I go inside and mention to the bartender that we've been waiting for 20 minutes, and would appreciate if someone could take our orders sometime soon. Another 10 minutes pass, still no server. At this point, our party is a bit irritated so we all go inside to just order our drinks directly from the bar. At this point the bartender realizes how long we've been waiting and is apologetic so he serves us himself at our table. He even comped our first round of drinks, even though we told him it wasn't necessary, which was super cool of him. I don't blame the bartender at all for any of this, he shouldn't have to serve us at all because he has other responsibility, we really appreciated his effort last night.

The reason for the overall negative review despite a pretty good overall experience last night is because this happens to us all the time at Clocktower. We constantly wait 40+ minutes for the bill once we are all finished and want to leave. We constantly get forgotten about and need to re-order things. I work in Westboro, and the service here is so bad at times that my company does not permit employees to eat at Clocktower for team lunches, meetings, etc. because it can take so long to get in and out, sometimes almost 2 hours. This does not apply to any other restaurant, only Clocktower.

Again, I really do like Clocktower, but there are obviously large, systemic problems with the way this place is run that can't be blamed on individual employees or a few "bad apples". Clocktower obviously does fine despite this but are leaving a ton of money on the table because people avoid this place specifically because of the service despite everything else being great. I wanted to give this review 3 stars, but consistently going an hour without seeing your server just doesn't deserve 3 stars regardless of how good anything else is.

UPDATE: I'm changing my review from 2->3 stars. I did follow up with Sean, who replied below. He offered a full meal + drinks for my friends and I on the house, which I declined, but I appreciate the gesture a lot. I do enjoy Clocktower despite a handful of gripes, their offer was above and beyond what was necessary or expected.

Always a great experience! The place is very well run and the service is impeccable. Food is also great. Menu changes sometimes but that great for variety. Beer is tasty and they have a new seasonal that comes out often enough. Highly recommended!
