We found this place when looking for pupusas (a traditional Central American food, mainly from El Salvador and Honduras). This place in particular makes them the Salvadoran way and they were amazing! We tried the ones filled with cheese, cheese & Jalapeño, “mixtas”, cheese and “loroco”... they were all good although my favourite are the cheese ones as usual. We also bought a tamal to take home and it was good too! The attention was nice. We are definitely going again.
Good value casual dining. Pupusas, enchiladas, tamales, horchata were so delicious.
Fantastic food and friendly staff. The service is a touch slow but the food is well worth the wait.
Amazing pupusas and great prices! Customer service is good too.
White guy, here. This is the real scoop on El Pulgarcito. If you’re expecting to be treated like you’ve done them a huge favour by eating there for the first time in your life, you’re going to be disappointed. If you’re going there expecting the level of professionalism you’ll find at a chain restaurant, you’re going to be disappointed. If you’re one of these white people who are ultra sensitive and will pluck the “they’re being racist” string because someone didn’t fulfil your idea of sociability, you’re going to be like that wherever you go. The restaurant can’t help you.
Now, if you’re going there to eat very tasty Latin food in a restaurant that you would find anywhere in El Salvador, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve been eating here for years, and Mauricio, the owner/guy at the counter, was much warmer with regulars than he was with me in the beginning; however, the food has always been delicious. Fast forward a few years and he’s as nice with me as he is with anyone else, speaking in his native tongue or otherwise.
So if you want Latin food in Scarborough while dining in a real Latin restaurant, here is your place. If you’re of the mindset that you’re special because you’re spending a few bucks somewhere and expect to be treated as such (at the cost of quality), go to Taco Bell.
