Went there tonight & ate outside. Awesome food & thanks to Angel our waiter! You were great as well! WE WILL BE BACK!!!👍🏼
TERRIFIC carnitas, and corn tortillas (always the best choice). They had salsa verde for a side at my request. And wonderfully seasoned rice/beans. Only took ten minutes for my to go order to be ready. I look forward to their getting their liquor license! Definitely try them out.
I'm all for supporting small/local businesses so when I realized that the homemade red beans and rice I was making wasn't going to be ready tonight I decided to dine out instead. Tonight's destination was the newly opened Rio Grande in downtown Sheffield.
We were told at the door that it was taking about 20 minutes for the kitchen to get plates out. We were cool with that. It seems a lot of people had the same idea, to try the new restaurant. A couple of guys who used to work here when it was 2nd & 13 even came in just to check it out and take a photo.
After we were seated, someone quickly came to take our drink order. Here, we also ordered a small cheese dip. This is where things started to unravel but nothing major.
We got our drinks (but no straws) and the cheese dip but it took a while for the chips to arrive. Sorry, cheese dip. You'll just have to wait to be eaten. Not a big deal. I'm a patient, understanding guy. When the chips did arrive, they were warm and fresh and the cheese dip was very good. Thankfully it had not cooled too much during the delay. I would say it was as good if not a little better than most other restaurants in the area.
There also seemed to be some disorganization in who was waiting tables. Someone came and started taking our order but then stopped when the person who I guess was supposed to take the order came out, only that person didn't take the order yet. It was a few more minutes before that happened. Again, not a big deal but it does show room for improvement. But hey, they're new.
I should note that the staff was all very friendly.
I ordered the Chili Colorado, one of my favorite dishes, and my other half got the chicken taco salad, her favorite. As expected, it did take a while for the plates to come out but the food was very good. The Chili Colorado was spicier than I'm used to but more flavorful -- that's a good thing! It came with a side of rice and beans and 3 flour tortillas. Meanwhile, my other half said her chicken taco salad was good. Ultimately, she ate the entire thing and we both left stuffed and satisfied.
Total for everything was $29. I left a $10 tip.
So yeah, overall it was good but there is room for improvement. Do keep in mind that this restaurant JUST opened so there are some kinks to work out and things that can only be learned from experience. I give 4 out of 5 stars with 1 star deducted for the delay despite it not being that busy and the minor -- but noticeable -- issues.
Would I eat here again? Yes, without hesitation, and I definitely suggest everyone come by and support this new restaurant.
P.S. - My phone's main camera stopped working a few weeks ago so pardon the poorly composed "selfie" of my Chili Colorado.
They had the best cheese dip ive had in a while! Food was really good! Nice service!
