My wife and I just casually decided to eat here while we were in town. We did not expect it to be as amazing as it was. Firstly, the service was wonderful. All the staff were very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the menu and alcohol selection. Secondly, the food was phenomenal. I highly recommend the fish and chips while my wife recommends the turkey BLT. Fries were some of the best I have ever had as well. Lastly, the dark chocolate bread pudding was decadent at could be. Definitely will get the desserts here every time we come.

I visited here twice on a business trip to Birmingham. The foods are so delicious, portions are huge so you can split it with someone or save for dinner, and prices are reasonable. I had shrimp and grits, fried okra, and sweet tea. The flavor of the shrimp, smooth creamy grit hit the spot. Fried okra was light battered and cooked whole and sweet tea washed it down nicely. John's City Diner won't disappoint. The restaurant is casual and family-friendly. A must visit if you're in BHM.

After trying to decide which local restaurant to try, my friend and I decided to try John's City Diner and we were NOT disappointed. It was amazing! We tried local beer and had such amazing food. Definitely try the fried chicken, collard greens, and grits. So much to try, so little time! If I find myself in Birmingham again, I'll definitely be back to John's.

Nice little place downtown! We walked from the Hampton Inn took about 5 minutes. Food was great, the staff was super friendly. You get a lot of food! Only complaint mixed drinks were super strong we were not able to drink them but if you like your drinks strong this is for you.

Absolutely incredible meal! Service was top notch and so welcoming. Started with an old school old Forrester old fashioned and pimento cheese with warmed toast. Sooooo good. Highly recommend the Asian Chicken & Waffles! Crystallized ginger waffle, fried chicken with soy maple syrup, black sesame seeds, cilantro & scallion. Hubby had a HUGE pork chop with mashed potatoes & gravy.
