La Fête

La Fete is the perfect spot whether it's date night, brunch, or 5pm and you cozy up to the bar to escape traffic (highly recommend). The food is among the best in Birmingham and the menu changes monthly, which is always exciting because we've yet to have anything bad. The atmosphere is my favorite in Birmingham - you really do feel like you're at a bistro in Europe, not in Alabama. This place has very quickly become a restaurant my husband and I tell everyone about because we want them to love this little local gem as much as we do!

I have had both the pleasure and disappointment of visiting La Fete twice in the last couple years. While my first visit in late 2022 with a friend for dinner was exceptional across the board, I returned recently with my boyfriend to grab brunch on Sunday. We are Birmingham natives but no longer live in Alabama, and were in town to visit family. We’d decided to treat ourselves to a few hours out together in the city, enjoying a nice meal and drinks. We were seated by a less than enthusiastic host, and then ignored by servers while the couple at the table that was seated after, and next to, us, was greeted promptly and served water while we waited for even eye contact. It was very disappointing and really brought down our moods. After several minutes of feeling ignored after the other couple had been greeted and served water, we got up and left. No one said a word or glanced our way as we did. I can’t neglect to mention the only obvious differentiator between myself and my boyfriend compared to the other couple seated after us — we are a mixed race couple, and they both appeared white. Take that as you will. We then went to Automatic Seafood, where we were seated and immediately greeted and served delicious food and drinks.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at La Fête, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The steak was perfect – juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked exactly the way I like. The cheeses were also amazing!
Besides the exceptional food, I must highlight the impeccable service from the manager, Maley and her team.
I will definitely be returning!

My husband and I visited La Fête last week for the first time. The reviews are mixed between the two of us. My husband is a vegetarian and most restaurants will make a veggie plate of all the vegetarian sides for him as a meal. Our server told us that the chef would not make that accommodation (this put my husband in a mood). The server forgot to put in our bread order and brought it to us after we finished our meal. My husband and I shared a cheese plate, which we both enjoyed. For his entree, my husband had the Leafy Salad and the Tempura Fried Spring Onions. He said they were both good, but he was still disappointed about the veggie plate. For me, I enjoyed the restaurant and plan to visit again with friends. I had the Speared Gulf Snapper and it was amazing. The bed of almond couscous under the snapper was seasoned well. My husband had a bite of the couscous and agreed that it was delicious. I think if my husband could have gotten a veggie plate with the couscous, Potato Pavè, and the wax beans he would have been happy.

From the moment we arrived the service was fantastic. The server was ver knowledgeable of the menu and the sommelier was very helpful with the wines. The food was all amazing and the overall experience was great. Started with the bread, oysters, cheese plate, and the potato apps. All amazing. Got the snapper entree which was perfect and tasted the burger which was insane. Finished with the olive oil cake and that was awesome as well. Highly recommend.
