Food was great! From Southern California where Mexican food is everywhere - but nothing like this! Corn tortillas for the shrimp, and birria tacos was fresh and tasted. Fried prickly pear cactus was a first - we'll be craving that from now on. House margueritas were a good size, as was the fried ice cream. Would recommend this place to anyone coming to Cottonwood.
A nice Mexican restaurant with great service. Good, but not great Mexican dishes. But I would eat there again.
Based on previous comments, I took one taco el pastor as an entree and the veggie burrito as the main dish.
The nachos con salsa roga were nice and crispy. The taco was good, but I expected a bit more flavor. The burrito was also good. It might have been a bit spicier for me, but overall, it was a good taste.
Compared to the real mexican home food (my boyfriend is mexican), the food over here is less spicy and a bit more blend, I guess it's adapted to the taste of tourists 😁 The vibe of the place is also not Mexican but rather that of a sports bars (you'll understand when you go there 😉).
All of the staff were very friendly and helpful in making me choose what I wanted to eat. The place looked very clean, and so the toilets.
Best vegetarian burrito I've ever had!
Filled with crispy napales (fried prickly pear cactus - yum!), fajita style veggies and some beans, lettuce and cheese. So all the good stuff without any rice 'filler' to dilute or dry. The Tortilla was soft and light, slightly crispy as well, almost layered like a Malaysian roti canai? Anyway, not like the usual flour tortillas. The result: a very flavorful, moist yet crispy burrito. So good.
They also made the taco salad vegetarian for us by subbing napales - this time breaded. Delicious. The same tortilla as above seemed to be used to make a fried bowl - so rather than a corn chip like textured bowl, think more like a light flakey pastry.
Our server was awesome. She also made us feel welcome despite showing up within an hour of closing. Thanks for the laughs!
Finally; food came quickly, prices were very reasonable, and they have a small outdoor section making them dog friendly.
