    Beautiful space and concept! Collectively owned, worker-led restaurant serving up delicious eats from chefs of color! Very vegan, veg, gluten-free friendly. Our faves are the fried oyster mushrooms, fava burger, and all the desserts 😍

    I got an /amazing/ vegan chicken pot pie with masa crust from Understory during their pre-launch fundraiser. The flavors were super on point, and every menu I've seen since then looks delicious. I can't wait to eat more of their food! It's been inspiring to see this worker-owned cooperative project come to life. We need more businesses that center the wellbeing of their workers, strengthen our community, and practice the vision of revolutionary anti-capitalism through new models of ownership and labor. We're lucky to have so many talented chef-activists in the Bay.

    The Ube concha was delicious along with the empanadas and Lumpia. While I was a little underwhelmed with the Inasal, I think that may have just been due to the place being significantly overwhelmed during their first day officially open. The staff make a very warm and inviting atmosphere for the patrons. Stylistically, I expect Understory to be a must try experience in the future and I look forward to trying their Kefta Burger and drinks next time I visit.

    Worker owned, trendy restaurant that serves some really creative takes on classic cocktail pairings. We tried the sliders (LOVE the lamb and the soyrizo), and the herbaceous fingerling potatoes got snapped up in seconds! I’d also recommend the cold brew with coconut milk; they let me try a sample and it was excellent. We were very impressed with the decor, the service, and most of all, the delicious food!
