This used to be Sake House, but have changed their name. Nothing otherwise has changed. It's an acceptable mid range sushi joint. The crispy rice with tuna is really good. A few times I've sat at the bar and ordered an Omasake (Chef's Choice) and it was good 2 out of 4 times.

If you are looking for a lively restaurant where you can show friends and family a particularly good time, then "Hikari Japanese Restaurant" is the place for you. My girlfriend, a LA native native, took my boy friend and I there during an overnight visit. It was perfect for my boy friend’s first exposure to LA, epitomizing the city’s friendliness and spunk. We all started out with a round of beers and sake, which were doubled and eventually tripled throughout the night complements of the generous owner. Finding ourselves in a particularly hungry mood, my boyfriend and I ordered a roll each and the teriyaki chicken dish to share. Needless to say our appetites were certainly satiated. The rolls were large and topped with an abundance of fish, giving us enough to protein and other fillers to feel satisfied. This complimented with the variety of samples they provided free of charge, just to enhance our eating experience, and plentiful dish of chicken and rice, definitely left us feeling well-fed. Just when we thought we were about to implode the owner emerges challenging us to a sake-bomb face-off. “Finish the last drop of this sake – bomb before I do” he proposes “and your tables’ $130 bill will be on me”, “loose”, he cautions “and I will add this bottle of beer to your tab”. Impassioned by the exciting chance of a free meal, low stakes, steady stream of alcohol that had already lowered our inhibitions, and false sense of self-confidence we accept the challenge. After loosing miserably we learn that he keeps himself busy by challenging his patrons on an hourly basis, giving him plenty of experience and inspiring skill to show us up. We left feeling slightly defeated but altogether jubilant after a delicious Sushi feast.

I love this place! The servers Joe and Chris always give great service while Lance and DK keep the sushi flowing at the bar. It can get pricey but any good sushi spot will be. Nice spot with great food.

I used to frequent this place for several years and noticed the quality going down over time, however it is under new management and I have to say I'm really impressed with the makeover! The quality of sushi has gone up, with a new line of chefs to please a variety of palettes and the prices are on par with the surrounding competition.

The ambiance caters to couples and small groups, but families didn't seem out of place either. They've done a really great job of breathing new life into the venue. If you've been here before and was disappointed, give it another try, I'm glad I did. Happy hour all night Wednesdays and the occasional Sapporo Friday specials, I'm definitely going back.
