Penelope's Cafe Books & Gallery

I had a half sandwich (ultimate grilled cheese) and bowl of soup (minestrone). Both were delicious and hit the spot.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch with a group of 6 today - the owner Penelope herself took time to chat with us about the history of the cafe and her inspiration by European architecture and the atmosphere of Carmel in designing the place (her husband was the mastermind behind that!). May the next 18 years be full of great conversations and great memories, and thank you to Penelope and other staff for making this such a unique gem in the greater LA area!

A hidden little gem. I feel guilty even writing about it... As if I'm letting the cat out of the bag. Friendly staff and in the words of my own daughter "the chocolate croissant is better than the one at Starbucks."

Really like this place, it's a great place to relax with friends for lunch. I always enjoy their selection of food, books for sale and other items. It's really a neat place, friendly staff, good food.

Fantastic food, quaint atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. It's like going to a good friend's house for lunch, but you can order whatever you want. I Love it!!!
