Love it! Great prices, great coffee, great food and great staff! The decor is excellent and the jukeboxes at the tables actually work! You can't get much better than this, frankly.
If you’re going for the authentic ambiance then you’re in the right place. However living LA you have way too many choices and this isn’t the only 59s diner around. The food is good, very good. The prices are too high for what you’re getting and although the staff is certainly pleasant you’ll be asking for your server even when it’s slow. I don’t know what they’re doing but this has happened all 4 times we’ve gone here. We won’t return but again, it’s a really cool place to go to once in a while!
As a fan of the long ago show, One Day at a Time, I tend to eat at Mel's whenever I'm in the neighborhood. Today is one of those days. The decor is typical diner. There's even a jukebox.
The service is efficient and friendly, and the food is organic and delicious. I had the Route 66 burger, rare. It was meaty and juicy. There were string onion rings, lettuce, tomato and Russian dressing. Delicious. My wife had scrambled eggs mixed with turkey sausage and home fries. She loved it.
There's free parking and outdoor seating for parties of two or less when the weather is good.
I recommend this place.
Expensive, For what you get. However, The food is still delicious.
But you can go to outer places and get food just as good for less.
But hey if this is the area you are in and more so if you work on Ventura everything is a lot here. So this is an excellent place to go. But if you don't leave in the area, it is not worth going to see this place.
But I did enjoy my food here several times. When I was working in the area at some of my offices for various companies, I run and work with.
This restaurant is usually a "seat yourself" ordeal when you walk through the door but big groups, don't be discouraged, as they are aware of who enters their doors. They will accommodate large groups. Nice, vintage vibe with fast waiters and healthy options. Most waiters are bilingual and will translate for Spanish speakers. Restaurant is vegetarian friendly. I enjoy their freshly made juices. Milkshakes are expensive but worth it and shareable!
