I love blue corn tortillas so when my daughter suggested we try this spot I enthusiastically agreed. These tacos are quite good. The meat is high quality without grizzle and the premium tacos provide a tasty alternative for those who would like something other than cilantro and onions (though my wife considers this to be sacrilege). The fries were ok, but it's hard to impress me with fries. The one thing we did not like was that the pork tacos were really greasy, as in dripping the fluorescent orange oil that some find to be off-putting. I don't mind a bit of orange oil, but these were just dripping with it. That aside, we tend to order the carne asada or other steak options and they have all been tender, delicious, and not at all greasy. Recommend giving this place a try if you're looking for good tacos in Pasadena.
Stopped in after a hike for tacos but leaned towards Birria Fries and an Esquite Cup, both were very good. the birria fries were prefect to grab and go and made a perfect meal. The Esquite was excellent and had flavor in every bite, the grilled corn and lime was a nice touch. Of course, Every order needs a Jamaica and this hit the spot. My only critique is the consomé was a bit too salty but everyone has a preference in consomé so I’ll leave it up for everyone else (I STILL FINISHED MINE THO) loved everything I’ll be back here often and will recommend this place to everyone on the trails. Great atmosphere and good music taste from the staff! 10/10
We usually eat at the sandwich place next door but it was closed and we've asked several people about the restaurant and all had great things to say so decided to try it ourseleves. Incredible food. Shrimp taco was the best I've ever tasted. Also had the mushroom taco and short ribs. All were amazingly seasoned and tender. Another reviewer mentioned that the asada fries were terrible but a couple from San Diego who was sitting next to us said they were amazing along with everything else they had and were adding the restaurant to their travel stops. Also, The staff are super nice. Atmosphere is casual and smallish but fine. Definitely coming back.
I had an absolutely outstanding experience at Madre Maiz! From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. The staff was very welcoming and the food was divine. Every taco was bursting with flavor. Will definitely be returning regularly! My new go-to taco spot!
