This was an interesting dining experience that reminds me of those fancy food you see from those ancient Chinese drama.
This place fills up fast, and unless you have a reservation expect a long wait. We came here when they opened and the hostess said they have a table for us, but we have to finish up 7:30PM (and true to their word at 7:30PM they kicked us out). The restaurant was decorated nicely all around including the private VIP room where we got seated.
As expected, the menu prices will be shell shocker. Their banquet style menu are on the high end of the dollar scale. Although it seemed like a lot (17 course), the portion size is on the small presentation side instead of the fill me up (more of a tasting menu for everyone). A bulk of their appetizers were enough where we each get to sample, or a spoonful to taste. Their entree portion was a little better. The temperature is not on the piping hot side, but warm. This restaurant doe offers authentic Beijing taste although I found it on the saltier side.
This is one of those restaurants I wanted to try but it's not something I would repeat.
It is a one of kind Chinese that I ever have in the States. This is a place 120% worth for detour if you are in town. Even if you are in greater LA area, the food, the preparation, the attention to detail. This is a place for experience. Some mention about unfriendly waiter / waitress, did not happen to us. So I can’t speck for it. (Wonder if the restaurant has any plan to open in east coast or not)
Food is pricey but generally tastes good.
Certain types of dishes are only suitable to order if you come with a group of people.
Interior is very decorated, although the good looking tables and furnitures means sacrificing some comfort.
All in all, decent experience, am interested to come back again for different kind of dishes.
I went with my friend for lunch. It was pricey, but totally worth it. I recommend going in a group of two or more. Four would be a decent number. Service was great, June was really nice. I can't wait to go back.
Came with my friend on Tuesday night, gotta be honest this is not authentic Chinese food to an "extend", yea it has some authentic dishes but are executed pretty badly. Fried sweet and sour mushrooms...
However I do love the sweet and sour shrimp as it's been fried to a perfection, heads cleaned thoroughly therefore nearly completely edible except the tail.
Now let's talk about the sweet and sour shrimp again, mushrooms are known to be an oil absorb ingredient and they fried it...And made it sweet and sour, so if you don't finish it in time, it'll become greasy and less appetizing.
Overall, place is clean and very stylish, service is excellent, ingredients are very fresh, all of above are worth 5 stars except for food taste...I'm all about taste therefore 3 is given.
One more thing, they are known for their authentic Beijing dessert but I did not have a courage to try after the mushroom, maybe next time~
