I had the Seafood Gumbo (excellent) with a little spicy kick that toned down with the hot water cornbread (yellow cornmeal) also excellent. My BF had the Red Snapper with greens (very good) and Mac 'n Cheese. All was good except they forgot to give him the three prawns that came with the meal. We didn't notice until most of the food was gone!
That's how good it was!
Without a doubt the best gumbo in the city. The small building itself has been there since the 80s but I just noticed this place last year. The gumbo is top of the line...great spice and packed full of shrimp sausage and chicken in a great roux. Every order comes with a piece of hot water cornbread that takes me back to Texas summers sitting outside with a pie tin to toss your shrimp shells in. I tried the smothered pork chops which were cooked perfectly tender and macaroni and cheese plus greens forthe sides. They have cobbler and banana pudding for sides. Everything is made fresh and worth the wait. Stuff your face at toris place #fatmentellnotales
Best gumbo I have had in YEARS. The cornbread was to die for and I had a great conversation to boot.
Cheers!
Best Soul food in town. Very friendly. The catfish, greens and hot water cornbread is so good.
